About

Between the library and the wardrobe

I’m Rafael Hett, a researcher in literature and fashion and a French teacher, born in São Paulo and based in Montréal since 2024.

I studied Portuguese and French languages and literatures at the Federal University of Pelotas, graduating with honors, and gave my first talk on fashion in Balzac there in 2015. In São Paulo, I then completed a postgraduate specialization in fashion communication and production, and a master’s at the University of São Paulo on Japanese fashion and aesthetics, with a thesis on the brand ANREALAGE. Studies in philosophy, and research in phenomenology at the Université de Montréal, gave me tools to think about the body. Today, my work reads literature through clothing and the fashion system.

I have taught French and literature since 2016, at university, at the Alliance Française de São Paulo and online, and I give courses and lectures on fashion and literature, including a course on the sociology of fashion at the University of São Paulo. I also run the Cercle des imaginaires, a monthly reading circle.
